2020 Census

Census 2020 begins April 1st, 2020

Every 10 years, our country has an opportunity to shape the future of its schools and communities - and we are asking for your help. This spring, the U.S. Census Bureau will conduct the 2020 Census to count everyone living in the country. A complete and accurate count is critical to our school and our students.

Census data directly affect how the federal government allocates more than $675 billion every year to communities for programs and services like Title 1, special education, school lunches,

after school programs, Head Start, and more. Census data guide decisions made by states and localities, as well as the private and not-for-profit sector. Each household will receive Census 2020 mail in March with a code to use to complete the Census online.

The most important thing to understand is that the 2020 Census will shape your future and your children’s futures.

  1. Everyone Counts! Babies, youth, middle-aged, elderly, homeless, disabled, all nationalities, anyone staying occasionally in the home.

  2. There are no repercussions if only 2 people are on the lease and they have more people living with them. It is important to be honest and count everyone!

  3. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND...IT IS 100% SAFE!!! By law, the Census Bureau can only use the data to report total numbers, not individual information.  No other federal agency, including ICE, can get answers. The information cannot be shared with landlords, service agencies, or anyone.

  4. The form can be completed online in about 10 minutes. The city will have different places available for people to complete the census. (Southwest is planning a date to have computers available to parents and families that need to complete the census, TBA).

  5. When you get your code, please take a picture of it on your phone! That way you can still fill it out online if you lose your form.

The 2020 Census is extremely safe, important, and easy to participate in!
